The Importance of Flossing

When you add flossing to your daily oral care routine, you will help prevent the inflammation of gums and tooth decay. While flossing is said to be the most difficult personal grooming activity, there’s no denying its importance — if you don’t floss, you could be neglecting up to 35% of your teeth’s surfaces! Here are some helpful tips to make sure you floss right and keep those teeth white:
- Using about 18 inches of floss, wrap most of the piece around one middle finger, and the rest around the other. Get in between each tooth by holding the string in between your forefinger and thumb, and using a rubbing motion.
- Once you reach the gum line, follow a C direction to keep in line with the shape of each tooth.
- Don’t forget about the molars–most cases of gum disease and tooth decay occur in the back teeth.
- Hold the floss firmly against your tooth and use a gentle up-and-down motion. Repeat on each tooth until you are Make sure to use fresh sections of floss as you go!
